Transmission System Function in Cars

Transmission system, in automotive, is a system that works for the conversion of torque and speed (rotation) of the engine torque and speed to be different to be forwarded to the final drive. This conversion changed the high rotational speed is lower but more powerful, or vice versa.

Example 5-speed transmission on a 4400 engine rpm

Highest torque of an engine typically occurs at about the middle of the engine speed limit is allowed, while the vehicle requiring the highest torque at start moving. Additionally, vehicles that run on roads that climb requires a higher torque than a car that runs on a flat road. Vehicles that run at low speed requires a higher torque than speed. With the operating conditions vary, so it needed a transmission system so that power requirements can be met by a machine.
Type of Transmission
  1. Manual transmission.
  2. Automatic transmission.
  3. Semi-automatic transmission
The main components
  • Clutch (clutch) or the torque converter. Clutch is used for manual and semi-automatic transmissions and automatic transmissions, torque converters used in automatic transmissions.
  • Transmission, also known as the gears.
